Fundraiser for Nepal at Himalayan Yak
“Human happiness and human satisfaction must ultimately come from within oneself—oh, and from Yak dumplings”
His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Gastronauts
We hope you’re all enjoying this taste of summer, getting your early tan on, and having fun outside. And we hope you’re excited for a warm spring dinner under the Jackson Heights 7 train. But this month’s Gastronauts has a bit of giving back. Yes, we can use our powers of heavy drinking and reckless eating for good, as well. A couple of years ago, you might remember we used our little club to help raise $13,000 for the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan.
This is one of those times we feel it’s important to give a little back.
Unless you’ve been living under a snow bank for the last month, you know that the roof of the world, Nepal, was shaken hard by a disastrous 7.8 magnitude earthquake. And so, we approached our friends at Himalayan Yak to help us host a fundraiser. They’re putting on a great dinner of nose-to-shaggy-tail yak, complete with: tongue (hard to come by!), stew, sausage, momos, and some absolutely, totally 100% legal, not-at-all-illegal, homemade Chaang, just for you. Of course, as always, you can pat yourself on the back for this kind and generous charitable act with vast quantities of beers (Indian ones—Nepali goods are hard to come by, as you might imagine).
As always, it’s going to be delicious. But we’ll also be doing our part to help those less fortunate recover—and given how lucky we all are to be able to eat and drink such amazing food with our friends once a month, we figure it’s the least we can do.
